Sustainability, Preservatives and Accreditation
Main Line Timber strives to promote sustainability and acts responsibly to ensure that, as far as possible, our activities do not damage the environment or waste precious resources.
  • Timber is our core raw material and is a renewable resource and we only source from sustainable sources. link
  • Preservatives are essential for outdoor structures. We use Tanalith-E ® for effective protection with low environmental impact. link
  • Our management systems and ethos have been accredited as a supplier to Local Government by EXOR link

Preservatives

Wood is a natural product and outdoor timber structures are always vulnerable to fungal decay. The life of timber depends enormously on the level of moisture. If the moisture content is less than 7% then decay is prevented and timber can last indefinitely - many buildings have wooden structures that have lasted many centuries.

All our products are protected with pressure applied tanalysing preservative - Tanalith-E ®. This is an industry leading system which provides superb protection, is attractive and completely non toxic.

We expect our products to have a life of at least 15 years, but actual performance depends on local conditions and regular maintenance. We stock a full range of wood treatment products to keep all wooden structures attractive and to protect from decay.

Pressure Treated Timber

TANALISED E pressure treated timber has been impregnated with TANALITH E, a waterborne product based on copper triazole technology. Copper is derived from recycled sources and triazoles are organic biodegradable biocides, commonly used to protect many of the food crops we eat. TANALISED E pressure treated timber is usually specified for both in and out of ground contact applications where there is a medium to high risk of decay or insect attack.

  • An established and proven alternative to traditional chromated/ copper/arsenate (CCA) treated timber.

  • Effective long-term protection against fungal and insect attack.

  • Proven performance, widely used and accepted worldwide.

  • Appealing natural green colour with excellent colour durability, blending perfectly with nature.

  • Impregnated using vacuum pressure technology.

  • Conforms to new European Standards and individual countries' national requirements.

  • Ideal for general construction, fencing, garden and leisure timber applications.

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) logo on a wood or wood based product is your assurance that it is made with, or contains, wood that comes from FSC certified forests.

There are a number of other "eco labels" around but they do not have the same strict environmental, social and economic standards or such a rigorous chain of custody; tracking timber from the forest to the final user. Therefore the FSC is the only one endorsed by the major environment charities including WWF, Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace and the Woodland Trust.

Sustainable Sources

We only use timber from sustainable sources which are accredited by Forest Stewardship Council. Full details are available from their web site, but the statement alongside summarises what this means.
